Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a deputy-involved crash causing non-life threatening injuries to the deputy and citizen.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a. m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Race Track Road and Forest Lakes Boulevard in Hillsborough County. Near the county line of Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a deputy-involved crash at the intersection of Race Track Road and Forest Lakes Boulevard just inside of Hillsborough County.

At approximately 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, Corporal John Dobson who lives in Hillsborough County was on his way to work in Pinellas.

According to investigators Corporal Dobson was driving his marked Sheriff’s Office 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Cruiser vehicle westbound on Forest Lakes Road and proceeded across Race Track Road with a green traffic signal. Investigators say 61-year-old John Harris was driving his 1994 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Forest Lakes Road and attempted to make a left turn on what witnesses described as a red arrow light to go north on Race Track Road in front of Corporal Dobson’s patrol vehicle, causing the collision. 

Corporal John Dobson was transported to a local hospital with non- life-threatening injuries.

John Harris was also transported to a local hospital via ambulance with non- life-threatening injuries.

According to Investigators from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, John H. Harris was issued a non-criminal traffic citation for a left turn in front of approaching traffic.

It does not appear that speed or impairment are factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
