What:
Detectives assigned to the Detention Investigation Unit have added a charge of escape to a Pinellas County Jail Inmate, after the inmate attempted to escape by chipping a hole in the wall of two cells in which he was housed.

When:
The holes were discovered and the charge was added on September 22, 2015.

Where:
The attempted escape occurred in two different cells where the inmate was housed within South Division of the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North in Clearwater.

Why/How:
Detention Investigation Unit detectives received a tip that 26-year-old inmate Scott A. Lambert was digging a hole in his current cell and had done the same in the cell in which he had been previously housed.

Detectives began their investigation. They first examined the cell in which Lambert had been housed between June 11 and September 14, 2015. Detectives discovered a 6 by 6 inch by 1.5 inch deep hole on the exterior wall underneath his bunk. Detectives say the hole had been concealed with a piece of notebook paper which was adhered to the wall with what appeared to be toothpaste.

Detectives further discovered an approximately 4 by 3 inch hole in the exterior wall underneath the bunk of the current cell where Lambert had been housed since September 14, 2015. This hole was concealed with toilet paper and toothpaste appeared to have been used as an adhesive.

Detectives say Lambert attempted to escape by chipping the holes in both the cells by utilizing a piece of metal from a broken light fixture he obtained from within the facility. The piece of metal was taken into evidence.

During an interview, Lambert admitted to chipping the holes.

The investigation further determined Lambert acted alone; and no breach was made to the exterior of the building.

The investigation continues.
