What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a motor scooter versus pedestrian crash in which the motor scooter operator has died after he apparently suffered a heart attack following the crash.  The pedestrian sustained minor bruising.

When:
The crash occurred at about 3:02 p.m. on Tuesday, February 02, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of 70th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach.

Why/How:
Deputies say motor scooter operator, 72-year-old David Lang, was traveling north on Gulf Boulevard in the median lane. According to investigators,18-year-old Jeffrey Kurnick was crossing Gulf Boulevard from east to west at the intersection of 70th Avenue, when he was struck (in the median lane) by Lang.

Investigators say Lang apparently suffered a heart attack following the crash. He was transported via ambulance to Palms of Pasadena Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 3:33 p.m. on February 2, 2016.

Deputies say Kurnick suffered minor bruising and refused treatment at the scene.

Deputies say neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.

Investigators say Lang was wearing a helmet.

The investigation continues.
