72 year-old male (Protective Custody- Baker Act)

What:
Deputies have taken a man into protective custody under a Baker Act after he discharged a firearm multiple times inside his residence following a domestic related argument with his wife.

When:
The incident began at about 8:30 p.m. on August 18, 2016.

The subject was taken into protective custody at about 11:40 p.m. on August 18, 2016.

Where:
The incident occurred at a residence located at 5757 66th Street North, Lot #43, in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
At about 8:30 p.m. on August 18, 2016, deputies responded to a residence in the Fairhaven Mobile Home Park for a domestic related dispute.

The wife of the 72-year-old male resident, informed deputies she had an argument with her husband and her husband armed himself with a handgun, discharging the gun inside the home. The wife left the home safely and informed deputies that her husband was alone inside the residence.

Deputies evacuated the neighboring residences after hearing additional gunfire in the home.

Deputies say they made numerous attempts to contact the subject with little success.

 At about 11:40 p.m., deputies made contact with the subject and safely took the man into protective custody under the Baker Act.

The man was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The investigation continues.
