Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a man that fled to Mexico after he sexually battered a minor in Pinellas County.

According to detectives, their investigation began in November 2015, after the 5-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries consistent with a sexual battery. The victim informed her mother that she had inappropriate sexual activity with the suspect, 42-year-old Domingo Maye, who was known to the victim.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives corroborated the victim’s allegations.

When detectives tried locating Maye, they discovered that he fled to his hometown near Mexico City, Mexico. Detectives obtained a Pinellas County warrant for Maye.

With the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives were able to contact Maye and convince him to surrender to FBI Agents in Mexico City. Maye surrendered to FBI Agents in Mexico City on February 1, 2017, and was extradited back to the United States.

Upon arrival to the United States, detectives accompanied FBI Agents and Maye back to Pinellas County where he was released to detectives.

Detectives interviewed Maye at the Pinellas County Sheriffs Administration Building at about 11 p.m. on February, 1, 2017. Detectives say that Maye confessed to the sexual battery allegations

Maye was arrested at about 11:20 p.m. on February 1, 2017, and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.

Maye was charged with two counts of Capital Sexual Battery, on a Child Under 12.
