What:
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri releases the Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion Program (APAD) 1^st Quarterly Report.

When:
The Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion (APAD) Program was implemented on October 17, 2016.

The Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion (APAD) Program quarterly report was released on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Where:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office located at 10750 Ulmerton Road, in Largo.

Why/How:
On October 17, 2016, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office implemented the Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion Program (APAD) with full participation from all cities countywide. The purpose of the program was to limit the number of citizens subjected to criminal arrest records for minor offenses and to provide law enforcement with an alternative to arrest when certain criteria was met.

The program was supported by all the criminal justice stakeholders such as the Sheriff, all Pinellas County Police Chiefs, the State Attorney, the Public Defender, the Chief Judge, and the Clerk of Court.

The APAD Program required that participants meet a set criterion for eligibility into the program. Some of the factors that were taken into account for eligibility were a person’s criminal history, the specific offense that was committed, a person’s cooperation, and their ties to the community, among other factors.

Once a person was deemed eligible for the APAD program, the participant was given sanctions to include community service, education, and/or restitution.

On February, 17, 2017, Sheriff Gualtieri released the APAD 1^st Quarter Report, a detailed statistical analysis of the participation in the program from October 17, 2016, to December 31, 2016.
