How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) investigate a crash that caused a fatality to a motorcyclist in Treasure Island.

According to investigators, 50-year-old Gary Orsley was driving his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle southbound in the median lane of Gulf Boulevard, approaching the intersection of 104th Avenue in Treasure Island.

A 2005 Honda Civic driven by 67-year-old Jim Uppendahl was stopping for another vehicle also in the southbound median lane of Gulf Boulevard, at the intersection of 104th Avenue when deputies say Orlsey ran his Yamaha motorcycle into the rear of the Honda Civic driven by Uppendahl, which occurred in the median lane of Gulf Boulevard.

Investigators say that Orsley was ejected from the motorcycle upon impact with Uppendahl’s vehicle.

Orlsey was reported to be wearing a helmet. He was pronounced deceased by Paramedics from Treasure Island Fire Department at 8:46 am.

Uppendahl was not injured in the crash.

Speed is not a factor in this case. Investigators are still trying to determine if impairment and or distracted driving may have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
