Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating the near drowning of a 10-month-old girl who was found lying face up in a full bathtub of water in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

According to detectives, 10-month-old Mya Gamble was with her mother, Amanda Carbo, and her two year-old brother Ian Gamble II when Amanda Carbo placed the two children in the family’s bathtub full of water for a bath. Amanda Carbo went into the kitchen. Amanda said the children were in the bathtub for approximately fifteen minutes and she was periodically checking on them. When she returned to the bathroom approximately two minutes after checking on them, she noticed Mya face up under the water with her lips slightly above the water and not breathing.  She screamed which alerted the father, Ian Gamble.

Amanda Carbo took the baby from the tub and into the bedroom where they began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Mya.  Deputies were notified and responded to the residence along with Lealman Fire Rescue who arrived on scene first and began advanced life saving measures on 10-month-old Mya. Shortly after lifesaving measures were performed, Mya began to breathe on her own. She was transported to All Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

2-year-old Ian Gamble II was not injured in the incident.

Detectives said that the incident appears to be accidental in nature.

The investigation continues.
