When:
The crash occurred at about 6:28 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Where:
The crash occurred near the intersection of Trinity Boulevard and East Lake Road in unincorporated Tarpon Springs.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are conducting an investigation into a three vehicle crash involving a deputy in unincorporated Tarpon Springs.

According to investigators, Deputy Gary Wilson was driving his 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser westbound in the median lane of Trinity Boulevard, approaching the intersection of East Lake Road with a red traffic light. Deputy Wilson slowed and was stopping for traffic at the intersection.

Investigators say 31-year-old Anthony Watt was behind the deputy in traffic driving his 2015 Porsche Macan, westbound on Trinity Boulevard. Watt did not see traffic stopping in front of him and crashed his Porsche into the rear-ended of a 2001 Dodge Ram being driven by 32-year-old Brett Dowd.

The crash caused a chain reaction pushing Dowd’s Dodge truck into the rear of Deputy Wilson’s cruiser.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Dowd to the Medical Center of Trinity for non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Wilson and Watt were not injured.

Investigators say impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Watt was issued a uniform traffic citation for Careless Driving.

The investigation continues.
