Major Richard Nalven started his career with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in February 1988. He has served in several areas during his career including the Patrol Operations Bureau, Special Operations Division, Strategic Enforcement Section, Judicial Operations Bureau, the Investigative Operation Bureau in the Narcotics Division, and the Professional Standards Bureau overseeing the Administrative Investigation and Policy Development & Accreditation Divisions.

His assignments in those areas included Patrol, Traffic Unit, and DUI Unit. Upon being promoted to Sergeant, he served in Patrol, the FTO Program, S.T.A.R. (street crimes), and DUI Unit. Major Nalven was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a Patrol Shift Commander and Commander of the Strategic Enforcement Section, Court Security Division, and Tactical Narcotics Division. Upon his promotion to Captain, he was transferred to the Professional Standards Bureau, where he served as the Bureau Commander. His duties included overseeing the Administrative Investigation Division (Internal Affairs) and the Policy Development & Accreditation Division.

Major Nalven was then promoted to Major and transferred to the Support Services Bureau, where he managed the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (A.F.I.S.), Communications, Fleet Operations, Forensic Science, Property & Evidence, Purchasing, Records, and Training Divisions.

Major Nalven is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, Senior Leadership Program. He served on the Major Accident Investigation Team and the Robotics Team within S.W.A.T.

Major Nalven’s assignment to the Patrol Operations Bureau has him overseeing all patrol services within the North, Central, and Special Operations Divisions including:
