ADULT BACKGROUND CHECKS:
To obtain a countywide adult background check, call the Records Division at (727) 582-6281 or come to the Central or North District Records Division.
To obtain a countywide adult background check via mail, you must send a self addressed stamped envelope to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office at the Central District Records address. Correct spelling of the individual(s) first and last name and a date of birth must be provided.
To obtain a statewide background check, contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement at (727) 298-2482.
To obtain a nationwide background check, contact the F.B.I. at (727) 461-7055
JUVENILE BACKGROUND CHECKS:
A juvenile seeking a background check must come to the Sheriff’s Office with photo identification (Florida I.D. card or Driver’s License) or a parent/guardian may obtain the background information with an original birth certificate of the juvenile and proper photo identification.
CRASH REPORTS:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer online accident report retrieval. Per Florida Statute, crash reports are only available to parties’ of the crash, the parties’ legal representatives, the parties’ insurance agents, the State Attorney’s Office, radio and television stations, newspapers or any state or federal agency authorized to have access. If you do not meet this criteria, you are not entitled to the crash report until 60 days after the crash. To retrieve a crash report you may come into the Sheriff’s Office Central or North District Records Division or you can retrieve it online. To retrieve it online, you will be required to enter the report number supplied by the Deputy at the scene, the date the crash occurred and the last name of a driver involved in the crash.
If you provide the correct information, you will be supplied with a link to download the crash report from our web site. The report will be in TIFF format which is viewable in most web browsers. You may save the file at no charge. The TIFF file may be between 300-600K and several pages in length. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, it may take a few minutes to download.
This site only hosts reports investigated by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office after April 1, 2003. Some reports may take several days or weeks before they are approved and entered into our records database. Please check back for at least two weeks before contacting our Records Division. INCIDENT/OFFENSE REPORTS:
Record copies of incident/offense reports filed with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office can be obtained from the Records Section; and is released according to Florida State Statute 119.00, Public Records. Chapter 119.00 outlines the criteria of what is considered as public record; therefore, the Pinellas county Sheriff’s Office is required to release information according to the public records laws.
Some juvenile reports are not public record without an original birth certificate and proper identification.
