Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a two vehicle crash involving a deputy in St. Petersburg.

According to investigators, on January 23, 2019 at approximately 12:01 a.m., Deputy Shawn Livernois was on-duty and traveling northbound on 37th Street South, in his unmarked 2007 Dodge Magnum.

Investigators say 34-year-old Derrick Taylor was driving his 2013 Nissan Altima, traveling westbound on 11th Avenue South, approaching 37th Street South. Taylor failed to stop at a stop sign located at the intersection of 37th Street South and 11th Avenue South and crashed into Deputy Livernois’ vehicle.

Paramedics responded and Deputy Livernois and Taylor were both transported to a local hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say that Taylor showed signs of impairment at the scene and after being released from the hospital, Taylor was arrested and charged with DUI with Property Damage/Personal Injury. Taylor was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to stop at a stop sign.

Taylor was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
