On February 19, 2020 at approximately 10:52 a.m., the St. Petersburg Police Department arrested 48-year-old Derrick Newsome for Robbery.

Through various investigative techniques, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to determine Newsome was the suspect from the robbery that occurred on December 4, 2019, at the BB&T Bank located at 5511 Park Street North, in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Detectives charged Newsome with one count of Robbery.

Newsome is currently in the Pinellas County Jail on previous charges.

Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a bank robbery suspect in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

When: 
The incident occurred at about 12:11 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

Where:
The incident occurred at the BB&T Bank located at 5511 Park Street North in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

How/Why:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a bank robbery suspect in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

According to detectives, at approximately 12:11 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, the suspect entered the bank lobby, at the BB&T Bank located at 5511 Park Street North, in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

While inside the bank, the suspect approached the bank counter and presented a note to the teller. The teller complied with the request and the suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. He was observed heading northbound on Park Street North, possibly in a maroon 4-door Kia with an unknown FL tag.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-30s, 6’02”, slim build, either having long dread style hair or a wig. He was wearing a red and white checkered shirt, jeans, grey sweatshirt, black sneakers, and a black hat with a red bill and the letter “B” on it.
