What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash. The pedestrian has died.

When:
The crash occurred at about 6:36 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred on Gulfport Boulevard, east of Beach Boulevard in Gulfport.

Why/How:
According to investigators, 74-year-old Jackie Lewis was crossing Gulfport Boulevard from north to south when he was struck by 86-year-old Sharon Odell who was traveling eastbound on Gulfport Boulevard.

Deputies say Lewis was crossing midblock just east of the intersection of Beach Boulevard and was struck while in the curb lane.

Deputies say Odell stopped immediately.

Investigators say Emergency Services responded to the scene.  Lewis sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene at 6:51 p.m. on February 3, 2016.

Deputies say neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
