Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation in Oldsmar. Through their investigation, detectives identified Edwin H. Barthold, who was found deceased outside his residence at 40 Pelican Drive East, and a suspect, Steven Larson, who was Barthold’s neighbor and subsequently found deceased at his home located at 39 Pelican Drive East from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When:
Deputies responded to the scene after receiving a call at approximately 7:58 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Where:
The victim’s body was found dead in the roadway in front of his home located at 40 Pelican Drive East in Oldsmar.

The suspect’s body was located at his residence at 39 Pelican Drive East in Oldsmar.

Why/How:
According to detectives, deputies responded to the scene after receiving a call at approximately 7:58 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit were summoned to investigate and determined the male found in the roadway at 40 Pelican Drive East in Oldsmar, was Edwin H. Barthold, who had been the victim of murder. Detectives subsequently identified his killer as 75-year-old Steven Larson, who they say shot Barthold to death.

Next of kin has been notified.
