How/Why:
Pinellas County Sheriff Office Marine Unit deputies are investigating a diving accident that left two divers with serious injuries off Madeira Beach.

According to deputies, 57-year-old Roger Olson and his wife were on their boat fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately five miles west of Madeira Beach, when they were approached by man in distress driving a 22 foot Sea Fox boat.

The distressed man 37-year-old William Gamba, informed Roger that his wife 37-year-old Blaise Gamba, was having a medical emergency on his boat and she was unconscious.

Roger boarded William’s boat and called for help on the VHF radio. Roger drove William’s boat inland towards Johns Pass as William performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Blaise.

Marine deputies and paramedics located the boat about a half mile west of Johns Pass.

Shortly after deputies and paramedics arrived on scene, William had a medical emergency and lost consciousness for an unknown reason.

William and Blaise were taken to Johns Pass where they were transported to Palms of Pasadena Hospital for life threatening injuries.

Deputies believe the injuries were related to a diving accident. Diving equipment was located on William’s boat and both William and Blaise were wearing wet-suits at the time of the incident.

The investigation continues.
