What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) investigate a crash that fatally injured a motorcyclist and sent a vehicle crashing into a home in Seminole.

When:
The crash occurred at about 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 19th , 2017.

Where:
The initial vehicle vs motorcycle crash occurred on 113th Street North, in front of the Seminole Post Office located at 9355 113th Street North, in Seminole.

The vehicle crashed into a fence and a travel trailer at a residence located at 11276 Freedom Court.

The vehicle crashed into the residence located at 11280 Freedom Court in Seminole.

How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) investigate a crash that fatally injured a motorcyclist and sent a vehicle crashing into a home in Seminole.

According to investigators, 22-year-old Brandon M Barody, was driving his 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on 113th Street North, approaching the Seminole Post Office located at 9355 113th Street North, in Seminole.

A 2015 Honda Pilot being driven by, 60-year-old Laura Scanlon was in the southbound median turn lane on 113th Street North, attempting to turn into the post office when she turned into the path of Barody’s motorcycle.

Investigators say that Barody’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of Scanlon’s Honda, and Barody was ejected off his motorcycle.

Immediately following the crash, Scanlon’s Honda accelerated in a northeast direction and crashed into a privacy fence and a travel trailer in the backyard of a residence located at 11276 Freedom Court, causing extensive property damage.

The Honda continued accelerating in a northeast direction and crashed into the south side of a residence located at 11280 Freedom Court.  The residence was not occupied at the time of the crash.

Paramedics responded and pronounced Barody deceased at the scene. Paramedics were able to extricate Scanlon who was trapped inside her vehicle. Scanlon was transported to Bayfront Medical for non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses informed investigators that Barody was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash.

Investigators say that Scanlon showed no signs of impairment.  

The investigation continues.
