Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating the death of a 6-month-old infant in unincorporated Clearwater.

When:
The incident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Where:
The incident occurred at a residence located at 412 Acorn Court in unincorporated Clearwater.

Why/How:
According to detectives, at about 8:50 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017, deputies were called to a residence located at 412 Acorn Court in Clearwater, for an unresponsive 6-month-old infant.

Detectives say that 6-month-old Elijah Calabrese, was put to bed in his crib at about 12 a.m. on February, 17, 2017. Elijah’s mother, 32-year-old Amy Calabrese, checked on Elijah multiple times throughout the night.

Amy Calabrese eventually left the bedroom to go sleep in another room in the house while Elijah’s father, 33-year-old Keith Calabrese, remained sleeping in the same room with Elijah.

At about 6 a.m. Elijah became fussy so Keith took Elijah out of his crib and brought Elijah into bed with him where they fell asleep together. When Keith woke up he found Elijah next to him on the bed, lying face down, and unresponsive.

Keith and Amy called 911 and they performed CPR on Elijah until paramedics arrived.

Elijah was pronounced deceased at the scene.    

Detectives say that Elijah had no obvious signs of injury. Elijah was being treated for a preexisting medical condition.

The investigation continues.
