What:
Detectives assigned to the Detention Investigations Unit have charged an inmate with Introduction of a Contraband Into a Detention Facility after three inmates overdose on a white powdery substance at the Pinellas County Jail.

Where:
The incident occurred in the C-Barracks at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49^th Street North, in Clearwater.

When:
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Why/How:
According to detectives, 29-year-old inmate Robert Gilner, 30-year-old inmate Jason Koketek, and 31-year-old Jason Sandy were being housed in the C-Barracks at the Pinellas County Jail on April 27, 2017, when all three began showing signs of an overdose.

Detention deputies and medical staff provided aid to the inmates until paramedics responded and transported the inmates to local hospitals.

Detectives say that Gilner was found in possession of a white powdery substance. Gilner admitted to deputies that the substance was his and he had shared the substance with inmate Koketek and inmate Sandy.

Detectives believe that Gilner brought the contraband into the Pinellas County Jail when he was arrested on April 25, 2017, for DUI and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.

Gilner will be charged with one count of Introduction of Contraband into a Detention Facility. Additional criminal charges are pending the lab results of the white powdery substance.

All three inmates are in fair condition and are expected to make a full recovery.

The investigation continues.
