What: Detectives assigned to the Burglary/Pawn Unit have arrested three armed burglary suspects who stole from a St. Petersburg pawn store during Hurricane Irma.
When: The burglary occurred between Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. and Monday, September 11, 2017 at 1:00 a.m. The suspects were charged on Thursday, October 5, 2017.
Where: The burglary occurred at Pawn Depot 2 located at 5198 34th Street North in St. Petersburg.
How/Why: Detectives assigned to the Burglary/Pawn Unit have arrested three armed burglary suspects who stole from a St. Petersburg pawn store during Hurricane Irma.
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017, deputies responded to an alarm call for Pawn Depot 2 located at 5198 34th Street North in St. Petersburg. Upon arriving, deputies assessed the scene and determined that the business had been broken into.
According to detectives, three suspects entered Pawn Depot 2 located at 5198 34th Street North in St. Petersburg, between Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. and Monday, September 11, 2017 at 1:00 a.m. Once inside the store, three suspects stole two firearms along with numerous pieces of jewelry and some electronics.
Through various investigative techniques, the suspects were identified as 31-year-old James Ruttencutter, 18-year-old Tyler Harris, and 21-year-old Kevin Guthrie.
Detectives arrested all three suspects on October 5, 2017, and the stolen items were recovered, except for the two firearms. Detectives were informed by the suspects that the firearms were sold on the streets.
Ruttencutter, Harris, and Guthrie were all charged with one count of Armed Burglary and remain in the Pinellas County Jail. This charge was enhanced due to this burglary occurring during the hurricane, in which Florida was in a State of Emergency.
