Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating an inmate death at the Pinellas County Jail.

When:
The inmate was transported to Northside Hospital on 7/14/2020 and was pronounced deceased on 7/18/2020.

Where:
The inmate was pronounced deceased at Northside Hospital located at 6000 49^th Street North.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating at inmate death at the Pinellas County Jail.

Investigators say, 54-year-old inmate Julio Vega was being held at the Pinellas County Jail after being arrested by the Pinellas Park Police Department on January, 21, 2020. He was charged with six Failure to Appear warrants and was housed in the south division pods.

Vega suffered a medical event and was transported to Northside Hospital where he later died.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. No further information is available at this time.

Next of kin has been notified.
