PINELLAS COUNTY - On August 18, 2023, at approximately 9:52 a.m., deputies responded to the roadway in front of 13900 49^th Street North, after receiving a report of a male hit by a vehicle.

According to detectives, 37-year-old Jesse Chilson was walking southbound on the sidewalk in front of 13900 49^th Street North. Detectives learned that Chilson committed a petit theft and then ran eastbound, into the southbound lanes of 49^th Street North. A 2018 blue Ford F150, driven by 76-year-old Thomas Polski, was traveling southbound on 49^th Street North. According to detectives, Chilson ran into traffic and was struck by the F150.

Chilson was pronounced deceased at the scene. Polski was uninjured. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Next of kin has been notified.
