What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle crash in Gulfport.

When:
The crash occurred at approximately 12:53 PM on Thursday April 30, 2015.   

Where:
The crash occurred at 6100 Gulfport Boulevard South in Gulfport.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle crash in Gulfport. The crash occurred at approximately 12:53 PM on Thursday April 30, 2015.   

According to investigators, a gold 2000 Ford Taurus was traveling westbound on Gulfport Boulevard at a high rate of speed. As the roadway curved, the Ford left the roadway and struck a concrete pillar to a fence along the southern perimeter of Stetson University. The vehicle continued through the fence striking a tree, rolling over and ejecting the driver. The vehicle then caught on fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department.  

The driver was transported to Palm of Pasadena Hospital where she/he was pronounced deceased. 

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
