Applicant Guidelines

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office requires applicants be:

• 18 years of age minimally for civilian positions
• 19 years of age minimally for Detention Deputy
• 21 years of age minimally for Law Enforcement Deputy
• Free of tobacco products for a period of six months prior to application and through the length of their career
• Free of illegal drugs for a period of twelve months prior to submitting an application for employment and throughout their employment
• Awarded an accredited High School or GED diploma
• A citizen for the United States for Detention and Law Enforcement Deputy
• Authorized to work in the United States for civilian positions

Deputy Detention and Corrections and Law Enforcement Certification Information:

• If you are currently detention and corrections or law enforcement-certified in another state and wish to become a deputy certified in the state of Florida, you may contact the Florida Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission (CJSTC) at (850) 410-8600 or www.fdle.state.fl.us for further information on equivalency training at one of the state’s law enforcement training centers.
• If you wish to attend the law enforcement training center in Pinellas County, you can contact the Police Applicant Screening Service (PASS) at (727) 864-3822 or www.policestandards.org for further information. Either CJSTC or PASS will be able to evaluate your background and previous training to determine what is needed for you to become Florida-certified.
