Why/How: Pinellas County Detectives are currently assisting the FAA and NTSB with a plane crash investigation that occurred at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. Deputies first received reports of the plane crash this morning at approximately 11:50 a.m. Detectives have determined that the twin engine Piper PA-30 aircraft had taken off from runway 36 at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport when suddenly the plane crashed near a service road on the northeast portion of the airport property. Detectives have identified the deceased pilot and single occupant of the plane as 24-year-old, Marshall Barath of Nampa, Idaho. Witnesses told detectives that it appeared that the pilot of the plane was practicing a common “touch and go” maneuver when the plane crashed. The investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the FAA and NTSB. It has not yet been determined what caused the plane to crash. The investigation continues.
