What:
Detectives are investigating a residential trespass/possible burglary that resulted in the intruder being shot by the homeowner.

When:
The incident occurred just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016.

Where:
The incident occurred at a private residence located at 2072 Whitney Drive in unincorporated Largo.

Why/How:
According to investigators, the homeowners had just returned home from an errand, when 66-year-old Linda Nundy spotted –from her window- a male walking into a garage/barn located in their enclosed backyard.

69-year-old Wayne Nundy proceeded to arm himself with his 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol  and went out to the back to investigate, as Linda Nundy called 911. Detectives say Wayne Nundy entered the garage/barn and upon walking up a staircase observed the suspect, later identified as Jacob Desimone, on the second floor. Nundy challenged Desimone and told him to get off his property as he walked up to the second floor.

According to detectives, Desimone came down the staircase and lunged at Nundy as Nundy fired a warning round into the floor. Nundy advised detectives that he ordered Desimone to leave his property repeatedly, as many as 50 times, and that the suspect would continually stop, face him and make aggressive movements towards him. Detective say this continued until they got back outside and the two continued to circle one another on the patio near a shallow pool.

Investigators say Desimone lunged towards Nundy several times, and at one point grabbed a metal patio chair and tried to strike Nundy with it. The struggle continued and Desimone once again lunged at him. Nundy responded by firing a shot that injured the suspect. The suspect was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say the suspect had been reported missing and endangered earlier Sunday morning.

No arrests or charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation continues.
