What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a deputy involved crash in Dunedin.

When:
The crash occurred at about 3:24 p.m. on March 2, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Union Street and Patricia Avenue in Dunedin.

Why/How:
According to investigators, Deputy Martin Guzman was traveling southbound on Patricia Avenue in his marked Chevrolet Tahoe approaching the Union Street intersection with a green traffic light.  As Deputy Guzman entered the intersection, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata operated by 71-year-old Priscilla Haley, was traveling westbound on Union Street through the same intersection and crashed into the driver side of Deputy Guzman’s cruiser. 

Deputy Guzman was not injured. Haley was transported to Mease Dunedin Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported to investigators that Haley had a red traffic light when she entered into the intersection.

Investigators reviewed Deputy Guzman’s dash cam video of the crash and confirmed that the traffic light was green when he entered the intersection. They also confirmed that Deputy Guzman was driving under the posted speed limit.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the investigation.

The investigation continues.
