What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash. The pedestrian has died.

When:
The crash occurred at about 1:03 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at the 10100 block of Gulf Boulevard, in Treasure Island.

Why/How:
According to investigators, 64-year-old Patricia Simmons was crossing Gulf Boulevard from east to west when she was struck by 46-year-old Randall Coffman who was traveling in his Toyota Tundra southbound on Gulf Boulevard.

Investigators say Simmons was crossing midblock and was not utilizing the designated crosswalk when she was struck in the southbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard.

Investigators say Coffman stopped immediately.

Simmons was transported to the Palms of Pasadena Hospital where she was pronounced deceased at about 1:44 p.m. on March 4, 2016. Coffman and his passengers were not injured.

Investigators say neither impairment nor speed appear to be factors in the crash.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office contracts with the City of Treasure Island to investigate major accidents in their jurisdiction.

The investigation continues.
