Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a St. Petersburg man for multiple counts of sexual battery on a 15-year-old minor.

According to detectives, their investigation began in April 2016, after the victim informed a family member that inappropriate sexual activity had taken place on multiple occasions with the suspect, 28-year-old Andrew Hernandez.

Detectives say that the victim was 13-years-of-age when the first incident occurred in 2013. In addition, Hernandez had custodial authority over the victim each time the inappropriate sexual activity took place.

Hernandez was arrested at about 10:45 a.m. on April 7, 2016, at the Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Hernandez was charged with six counts of sexual battery and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.

The investigation continues.
