Why/How:

In recognition of National Police Week, Congressman David Jolly stopped by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to thank deputies for their work in the community and shared notes from local children on Monday, May 9, 2016 around 1 p.m. The scheduled visit took place at the Sheriff’s Administration Building located at 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Congressman Jolly said that it's important that police officers know that children appreciate them. The delivery is in advance of National Police Week, which officially begins on Sunday May 15, 2016 and runs through Saturday, May 21, 2016.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
