What: Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit have arrested a gas station robbery suspect in unincorporated Largo. When: The robbery occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016. The suspect was arrested at about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016. Where: The robbery occurred at the Sunoco Gas Station located at 10570 Seminole Boulevard in unincorporated Largo.
Why/How: Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit have arrested a gas station bank robbery suspect.
According to detectives, the suspect entered the Sunoco Gas Station located at 10570 Seminole Boulevard in unincorporated Largo, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
Once inside the gas station, the suspect disguised with a hooded sweatshirt displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and he demanded money. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money and he exited the gas station fleeing on foot.
Shortly after the robbery, responding deputies located a subject identified as 22-year-old Darryl Carter walking in the area. Carter was questioned about the robbery and he denied any involvement. Carter was released from the scene.
Through various investigative techniques, detectives later confirmed that Carter was in fact responsible for the robbery. The plastic replica handgun that Carter used during the robbery was also recovered by detectives.
Deputies arrested Carter during a traffic stop in Seminole at about 4:00 a.m. on May 29, 2016.
Carter was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident.
