What:                                     
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian hit and run crash in Kenneth City.

When:
The crash occurred at about 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

The suspect was arrested at about 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred at 49th Avenue North and 61st Lane North in Kenneth City.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) arrested the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian hit and run crash in Kenneth City.

According to investigators, the victim 19-year-old Sean McCasland had an altercation with the driver of a red Ford F250 pick-up truck in front of MaCasland’s residence. At one point during the altercation, McCasland jumped onto the truck and the driver of the truck tried driving away.

Witnesses told investigators that McCasland was seen hanging off the driver side door of the truck as the truck drove northbound on 61st Way North and then made a left westbound turn onto 49th Avenue North. Witnesses said that McCasland fell off the truck onto the roadway near 61st Lane North and the truck stopped. The driver of the truck then proceeded to drove off running over the victim with the left rear tires of the truck.

The truck continued westbound on 49th Avenue North and left the scene.

McCasland was transported to a local hospital for life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Through various investigative techniques, investigators were able to identify, 20-year-old Tyler Johnson, as the owner and driver of the Ford truck. Detectives located Johnson and his truck.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident. Johnson was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death.

McCasland’s next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
