What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a rollover crash in Oldsmar.

When:
The crash occurred at about 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

Where:
The crash occurred on Forest Lake Boulevard just south of the Tampa Road intersection, in the City of Oldsmar.

Why/ How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a rollover crash in Oldsmar.

According to investigators, 48-year-old Joel Vergara-Rodriguez, and his passenger 77-year-old J. Cleofas Vergara-Jaimes, were traveling southbound on Forest Lakes Boulevard just south of Tampa Road, in a 2002 Dodge Dakota.  As the Dodge Dakota approached the exit to the Walgreens parking lot it was struck by a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, being driven by 18-year-old Chelsea Caldwell.

Investigators say that Caldwell was making a left northbound turn onto Forest Lakes Boulevard from the Walgreens exit and did not see the Dodge approaching. Caldwell’s Hyundai struck the passenger side, rear of the Dodge. The Dodge was pushed sideways and the vehicle rolled over, coming to final rest in the upright position.

Caldwell and Joel Vergara-Rodriguez were not injured. J. Cleofas Vergara-Jaimes received what was originally believed to be life-threatening injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Investigators say that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash.

The investigation continues.
