Where:
The incident occurred at the victim’s residence located at 3063 Terrace View Lane in unincorporated Clearwater.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit say that a man died after he unlawfully forced his way into an occupied residence and violently attacked two residents.

According to detectives, Steven and Heather Aiosa were in bed asleep at their residence located at 3063 Terrace View Lane, when they were awoken to a male subject standing in the doorway of their bedroom. The suspect, who was later identified as 31-year-old Robert Alcalde, had broken a window and forced his way into their residence while they were sleeping.

Detectives say that Alcalde began acting irrationally, trying to climb the walls of the bedroom. Steven armed himself with a .22 caliber rifle and a machete. He and Heather retreated to the back of the residence where they called 911.

Steven tried loading the rife but the rifle malfunctioned and was inoperable.

Detectives say that Alcalde followed Steven and Heather to the back of the residence where Alcalde violently attacked Heather. In defense of his wife, Steven armed himself with the machete and struck Alcalde in the legs numerous times causing serious injury.

Deputies arrived, and found Alcalde holding the .22 caliber rifle, fighting with Steven. Deputies disarmed Alcalde of the rifle. In doing so, deputies deployed their Electronic Control Weapons striking Alcalde multiple times with little or no effect.

Detectives say that Alcalde continued physically resisting deputies despite suffering from significant leg injuries and considerable blood loss.

When paramedics arrived, Alcalde was transported to Northside Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Steven and Heather Aiosa were uninjured.

Detectives say that Alcalde was not known to Steven or Heather Aiosa. Detectives also believe that Alcalde was impaired at the time of the incident.

Alcalde’s next-of-kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
