Five-month-old female (Per Florida Statute 119.071 (2)(h)1, no further details will be released that would tend to identify the victim.) What: The driver of a vehicle in Largo was arrested for DUI after the suspect driver was observed intoxicated and driving with his infant daughter in the vehicle. When: The incident occurred at approximately 6:53 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
Where: The driver was stopped at the Mobil gas station located at 4899 Ulmerton Road, Largo.
Why/How: According to deputies, an acquaintance of Douglas W. Fountain called the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office to report that he was using drugs and driving in his 2001 red Dodge pickup truck with a baby in the front seat.
Deputies located Fountain shortly thereafter and he was stopped at the Mobil gas station located at 4899 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Fountain’s five-month-old daughter was strapped in her car seat next to him in the passenger seat.
Deputies say that during the traffic stop, Fountain was found to be a habitual traffic offender. In Fountain’s truck, deputies say they found several knives, including a Bowie knife with a 10-inch blade, a container with 8.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine leaning on the baby’s bottle under the passenger seat, and a clear glass pipe under the driver’s seat.
Fountain was arrested for DUI, Child Abuse (Child Endangerment), Driving While License Revoked (Felony-Habitual), Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Felonious Possession of a Concealed Weapon.
He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The baby was released to the care of Child Protection Investigators.
