What: Operation Safe Surrender was a one-day opportunity for individuals with outstanding non-violent misdemeanor warrants to safely turn themselves in and have their warrants reviewed and potentially resolved instead of being arrested.
When: Operation Safe Surrender was held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016.
Where: Operation Safe Surrender was held at the Suncoast Safety Council located at 455 31st Street North in St. Petersburg.
Why/How: On Saturday, September 17, 2016 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. individuals with non-violent, misdemeanor warrants had the chance to turn themselves in during Operation Safe Surrender. The operation yielded the following results:
34 offenders with outstanding misdemeanor warrants responded to the Suncoast Safety Council, which equated to a total of 38 misdemeanor warrants being processed and purged from the system.
Most of the warrants were for missing court dates (Failure to Appear) on various misdemeanors, traffic violations, and code violations. A total of $1,113 in fees and fines were collected and additional payment plans were arranged for some defendants.
No arrests were made during the event.
