Where:

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Economic Crimes Unit have arrested a man for Scheme to Defraud. The suspect was involved in an organized scheme, which targeted multiple victims who placed their RV’s on Consignment with the business.

According to detectives, their investigation began in September 2016, when the victim reported she placed her RV on consignment contract with Consignment RV. The RV was believed to be sold and the note on the RV was to be paid off; however, the loan was never satisfied.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the suspect, as 39 year-old Jeremy Raney. Consignment RV is owned by Howard Raney, but solely operated by his son, Jeremy Raney, during the time of these transactions.

Detectives say that between June 2016 and October 2016, Raney was involved in an organized scheme, where he would collect funds from multiple clients for RV transaction sales. Raney would intentionally defraud the clients by collecting the funds from both the buyers and sellers and not satisfy the loans.

The sustained financial loss as a result of this organized scheme totaled $186,860.08.

Consignment RV was also investigated by Florida Bureau of Dealer Services, Tampa Division, Region 8, after receiving multiple complaints against the business. Once the inspection of the business was completed in December 2016, the business was officially shut down and their license suspended.

On January 10, 2017, detectives located Raney at his girlfriend’s residence, located at 8143 46th Avenue North, Apt. # 213, in St. Petersburg. Raney was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

Raney was charged with one count of Scheme to Defraud.

The investigation continues.
