What:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation where a man was found deceased near the East Beach of Fort De Soto Park. 

When:
Deputies responded to Fort De Soto East Beach, in Unincorporated Tierra Verde at approximately  11:17 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2017.

Where:
The victim was found near the far end of the East Beach of Fort De Soto Park, 3500 Pinellas Bay Way South, in  Unincorporated Tierra Verde.

Why/How:
Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the far end of the East Beach of Fort De Soto Park 3500 Pinellas Bay Way South, in  Unincorporated Tierra Verde. Regarding reports of a deceased person.

According to detectives, 57-year-old Dyrle Burkett was found in the water near the shore. When deputies and paramedics arrived he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives have confirmed that Burkett died from unnatural causes.

Investigators say Burkett was reported to have made earlier statements to harm himself.

Next of kin has been notified.

This continues to be an open and on-going investigation.
