Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Oldsmar. The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries.

When:
The crash occurred at approximately 2:39 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018.

Where:
The crash occurred in the southbound lane of Bayside Boulevard, just north of Sheffield Court in Oldsmar.

How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Oldsmar. 

On Thursday, February 22, 2018 at approximately 2:39 a.m., 37-year-old Justin Kaune, was traveling south on Bayside Boulevard, while driving his Suzuki motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The Suzuki struck a raised cement median, just north of Sheffield Court, causing the motorcycle to lose control.

Kaune was ejected from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. 

Kaune was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

Speed and impairment appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.
