The 21st installment of "Operation Medicine Cabinet" collected 919 Lbs. of medication.

When:
The event was held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Where:
The event was held at 9 locations across Pinellas County to include north, mid and south Pinellas County.

Why/How:
The breakdown of results for Operation Medicine Cabinet is as follows:

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office

Sheriff's Administration Building:   70.5 lbs.

North District Station:   12.0 lbs.

St. Pete Beach:   25.0 lbs.

TOTAL:   107.5 lbs.

Largo Police Department:   2.0 lbs.

Clearwater Police Department:   519.0 lbs.

Pinellas Park Police Department:   52.0 lbs.

Kenneth City Police Department:   102.5 lbs.

St. Petersburg Police Department:   136.0 lbs.

TOTAL WEIGHTS FOR ALL AGENCIES:    919.0 LBS

The event is an opportunity for residents to safely discard unused or expired prescription medications; and is a multi-agency effort aimed at addressing the problem of prescription drug abuse and keeping a clean environment.

Operation Medicine Cabinet events began in May 2009 and have been held semi-annually since then.

Drop-off containers inside the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Administration Building (Largo) and the North District Station (Dunedin) are open year round.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is set for its 21st installment of “Operation Medicine Cabinet."

The event is an opportunity for citizens to safely discard unused or expired prescription medications; and is a multi-agency effort aimed at addressing the problem of prescription drug abuse and keeping a clean environment.

Why/How:
Operation Medicine Cabinet  will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, between 10:00am and 2:00pm.

Citizens are invited to stop by any one of the eight listed locations during the designated times to drop off their unused and expired prescription medications for safe collection and disposal – no questions asked.

Operation Medicine Cabinet is designed to educate the public and raise awareness about the problem of prescription drugs abuse. The problem has reached epidemic proportions, with prescription drugs as the number one abused drug in the United States, surpassing all other illicit drugs.

Please be aware that no bio-hazards or needles will be accepted and that the program is intended for private citizens of Pinellas County and not for commercial use.

As a reminder, drop off sites are in the parking lot area or lobby of each location. Residents should look for a law enforcement presence at each of the selected drop-off sites.
