How/Why:
Deputies arrested a Dunedin woman on multiple felony theft charges for stealing purses, wallets and checkbooks from women in grocery stores.

According to deputies, since December 13, 2018, there have been a total of eight reported thefts or attempted thefts at multiple grocery store locations in Clearwater, Dunedin, and Palm Harbor.

Through their investigation, deputies were able to identify the suspect as 61-year-old Julie Edie of Dunedin.

Deputies say Edie targeted elderly females with the victims ranging in age from 68-years-old to 80-years-old. Edie would distract the women, then steal their purses, wallets or checkbooks. Deputies believe Edie would steal these items to search for cash.

Edie has multiple prior convictions for grand theft and cocaine possession and spent several years in the Florida Department of Corrections before being released in 2015.

Deputies arrested Edie on January 19, 2019 and charged her with three counts of felony petit theft. Clearwater Police Department also charged Edie with two counts of felony petit theft.

Edie was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident and is currently awaiting trial.
