It was relayed that Meyers made a statement about “shooting up the school,” if he did not win one of the senior superlative awards. Deputies advise that during their investigation, Meyers admitted to making the statements to a friend, but in a joking manner. Meyers stated he made the statements verbally and also sent text messages to his friend on the Facebook Messenger application. Meyers stated he did not have any access to guns, would never do such an act, and never intended on hurting anyone. Deputies confirmed with Meyers’ parents that there were no guns in the home.

Meyers allowed the deputies to look at the texts on Facebook Messenger dated February 11, 2019, in which Meyers stated, “I hate everything and im gonna shoot up our school… Everything is wrong…And i wanna hurt someone for it…So im finna shoot up the school… Nothing I just hate everything and want everyone to know it.”

Deputies arrested Meyers and charged him with Threatening Communications or Threats of Mass Shooting. Meyers was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without Incident.
