Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a single motor scooter crash in Gulfport.

According to investigators, 46-year-old Scott Houck was driving his 2015 KYMCO motor scooter northbound on 54th Street South in Gulfport at about 2:17 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Witnesses told investigators, Houck left O’Maddy’s Bar and Grill, located at 5405 Shore Boulevard South in St. Petersburg, at approximately 2:10 a.m.

Investigators say while Houck was driving northbound on 54th Street South, it appears he left the roadway and struck a mailbox at 1711 54th Street South. Houck was not wearing a helmet.

A resident heard the crash and called 911.

Paramedics arrived on scene and Houck was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Impairment does appear to be a factor in this crash.

The investigation continues.
