Why/How:

Deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau - DUI Unit, have arrested a Sheriff’s Office Child Protection Investigation Supervisor for DUI.

At about 6:23 p.m., on Sunday, September 1, 2019, deputies observed a black 2019 Infiniti sedan driving northbound on US Highway 19 North, just south of SR 580. The vehicle was failing to maintain a single lane and driving at excessive speeds.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with 37-year-old Samantha Krenek, who was the only occupant in the vehicle. Krenek identified herself as being a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office employee.

Deputies noted Krenek showed signs of impairment by having bloodshot and watery eyes, and a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her mouth. Krenek agreed to perform Field Sobriety Tests, but performed poorly on them.

Deputies say that Krenek submitted to a breath sample which indicated she had a BrAC of .283/.286.

Krenek was arrested and charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence. She was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

Krenek was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, on January 24, 2005. She worked as a Child Protection Investigation Supervisor in the Child Protection Investigation Division.

Krenek’s employment was immediately terminated following the arrest, which is consistent with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office policy.
