Washington D.C. – On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA) awarded Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri with the 2022 Sandra S. Hutchens Sheriff of the Year award during the MCSA 2023 Winter Conference.

The award is named after Sheriff Sandra S. Hutchens (Orange County, CA), who served as the MCSA President. Sheriff Hutchens regrettably passed away in 2021 following a battle with breast cancer.

Sheriff Gualtieri received the award for his positive impact on MCSA and contributions to law enforcement across the nation.

According to the MCSA award, Sheriff Gualtieri was recognized for his leadership and unwavering support in the advancement of MCSA and the preservation of the Office of Sheriff. Sheriff Gualtieri has left a “lasting impact” that earned him “a place of honor and respect amongst (his) colleagues, who proudly award (him) this distinction of Sheriff of the Year.”

Sheriff Gualtieri is an MCSA member and has served on the Executive Board since 2018. Sheriff Gualtieri is a past president of the Florida Sheriff’s Association (FSA) and currently chairs the FSA Legislative Committee. Since 2018, Sheriff Gualtieri has chaired the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, which has investigated the tragic shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and has made significant improvements to school safety in Florida.
