The victim is under the age of 18. Per Florida Statute 119.071, no further details will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested 42-year-old Joel Avitia for Lewd and Lascivious Touching of a Minor.

Detectives began an investigation after they learned of inappropriate conduct occurring between Avitia and a female victim. Detectives say Avitia invited the victim to his residence and gave her money to go shopping. Avitia then proceeded to touch the victim inappropriately and told her not to tell anyone. The victim immediately reported what occurred and law enforcement was contacted.

On November 5, 2024, Avitia was taken into custody and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
