We live in the Lansbrook neighborhood and often drive on and bike along East Lake Rd near where Deputy Magli was tragically struck.  We greatly appreciate his and all others' efforts to protect us, and think that he likely saved lives by his attempt to neutralize the drunk driver.  We hope his family, friends and colleagues will find peace of mind in time knowing that his life was not lost in vain.  Deputy, thank you so very much for your dedicated service on behalf of so many!

Mike you were such a great guy to be around and work with these past couple years. I will cherish our brief time we spent watching the early voting locations, talking all day about football, video games and life. You were a family man at heart which is something that will stay with me forever. RIP Mike.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike a number of times before leaving for midnights in July 2020, and I was always struck by his warm disposition, his unceasing smile, and his quick wit to throw a joke in at just the right time. Mike was compassionate and thorough; the epitome of a good Deputy Sheriff. Mike, you will definitely be missed. Magli family, thank you for sharing Mike with us - we who knew and worked with him are much better for it!! My prayers are with you, and our PCSO family, as you continue to grieve!

Deputy Georgeos K Smalios

To Stephanie Magli and the entire Magli family, I wish to send our deepest condolences from the Smalios Family.  Mike and I were zone partners in Dunedin, we would meet up and have lunch in our cars together every day and talk about our little girls.  Mike is a great person and helped me out one night and picked me up from my house and drove me to our north garage to pick up my cruiser for duty the next day.  May his memory be forever eternal.  RIP MJM #58501.

I did not know Deputy Magli on a personal level, but have ran into him around PCSO over the years. He was always so nice and had that smile. Thank you Michael for your sacrifice. My 16yo fairly new driver and her teammates left East Lake high school literally mins after this happened headed for an away game. In my eyes he saved my daughter and her friends and also other drivers on the road that day. He is a HERO and I hope his daughters grow up knowing that and never forget that their Dad was a true hero that sacrificed his life for others who were in danger that day. The Magli family you are in my prayers and he will never be forgotten.

I did not know Mike on a personal level but he worked the area where I live and on a few occasions while I was in my yard Mike would drive by and we would engage in conversation. I always found him to be proud of the uniform he wore and the service he provided. I'm truly saddened that your pain overshadows the heroism of Mike actions. Although your path will be tough, every day looking into the eyes of those girls will be a forever remembrance of Mike and his time here. He has traded his star for wings! God Bless you Mrs Magli.

Sergeant Paul Langlais

I had the pleasure of watching Mike grow into a well rounded Deputy. He had a natural gift for establishing a rapport with people because of his kind nature. I enjoyed many conversations with him about work and his aspiration to keep growing as a deputy. He was a strong family man and for that, along with his work ethic, he was well respected. RIP Mike. You will forever be missed.

I only had the pleasure of being with Mike on one call last year, but over the course of the time I spent with him that day, I was struck by how compassionate he was towards the people we work with, and how willing he was to help a newer deputy such as myself learn the nature of the job. Although I only met him a few times, Mike was a wonderful person to be around and always willing to listen and help with any issue. I am earnestly praying for the Magli family. Know that you are loved, that Mike made a difference and was loved here very dearly, and he will never be forgotten.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Deputy Magli but I can see the support within the department and across the county is a true testament to the kind of person he was.  My deepest condolences to the family and friends that knew him.  To Stephanie especially, this is not an easy road life has forced you to take.  My husband died 3 years ago at the age of 27, different circumstances of course but I know a portion of how you’re feeling and I hope you feel free to reach out if you would ever like to.  Just remember to take it one day, one breath at a time.

I just started my second LE carreer here and have met alot of LE officers in my past 40 years. I could tell Michael was at the top of the lists as a great officer and person. Just 2 weeks ago I started to work with MichaeL and the first time he backed me up on a call he not only expressed his compassion towards a transient person, but made sure I knew I could call upon him for any questions or help I needed as I made this transition.

R.I.P. my brother. It has been my honor to have met you.

My condolenceses to Michael's Wife, children, family and friends.

Deputy Felisha Barnes

I di not know Mike as well as a lot of other deputies in the agency, but I did have the pleasure of being posted with him for several shifts during Hurricane Irma in 2017. My dad had just died a month before Irma graced us with her presence. I was in no shape mentally or physically as I was still trying to process the loss of my father. None the less we do what Deputy Sheriffs do often and put our adult pants on and get to work. I found myself crying and breaking down in the middle of the street directing traffic due to the loss of my dad and the fact I had to send my 1 year old away to be safe so I could attempt to focus. Mike never once judged me on what I was going through and how I was handling it. He would tell me it was ok to cry and he told me to cry often. He would try to take my mind off the stress by telling me jokes. He spent a good portion of the shift finding a way to fit the word "invisible sunburn" in a sentence because that is what I kept calling my wind burn. We also exchanged spouse stories and I remember how much he loved his wife and how proud of her he was.  Mike I wish I would have known you better because In our brief interaction you did more for me than some people I have known my entire career and I will forever be grateful. We will all continue to keep your memory alive. My deepest condolences go out to your wife and kids and your family. You will be missed. RIP Brother. We got it from here.
