The State Attorney’s Office released the results of their investigation into a shooting involving a deputy that left one man deceased in St. Petersburg. The shooting was deemed justified.

The incident occurred at about 9:33 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

The results of the SAO investigation were released on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

Where:
The incident occurred in the alleyway of the 2200 block between 35^th Street South and 36^th Street South, in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
The State Attorney’s Office released the results of their investigation into a shooting involving a deputy that left one man deceased in St. Petersburg, on January 23, 2020.

In a letter sent to Sheriff Bob Gualtieri on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, State Attorney Bernie McCabe stated, “As a result of the investigation conducted by my office, I have determined that Deputy Richard Curry was in the lawful performance of his legal duties when he discharged his weapon at Marquis Golden and Delvin Ford. Marquis Golden and Delvin Ford’s actions of raising their firearms and subsequently firing them at Deputy Curry constituted the offenses of Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer. Deputy Richard Curry had reason to believe that Marquis Golden and Delvin Ford posed a danger of great bodily harm or death to him when he fired his weapon.”

The State Attorney’s Office concluded that the death of Marquis Golden was justifiable homicide, pursuant to Section 776.012, Florida Statutes.
